The town of Weir was settled by former Confederate Colonel John Weir and his brother James in 1868. Weir is located in southwestern Choctaw County and is bordered on the north by the Yockanookany River.
Weir is located just off of the historic Natchez Trace and is only a few miles away from Mississippi State University and the Choctaw Indian Reservation. Weir is also part of the Mississippi Blues Trail and was home of the historic Choctaw County Blues.
